The PXO was created as a live or studio tool. When J. Rockett sent Phil the overdrive sample, he found that it saved him in backline situations and provided him with a drive that plays well with others.

The PXO is an overdrive/boost pedal where you can select pre or post, giving you variety in how you want to boost, EQ, and overdrive. J. Rockett has provided standard controls on the overdrive side, such as Volume, Gain, Overdrive, and EQ. On the boost side, you have a separate Tilt EQ that allows you to EQ with simplicity.

You can experiment by cascading in a pre- or post-situation and build from there. The PXO has a lush, thick feel to the bottom end and a smooth top end that invites you to dig into the note.

Boost Section

Tilt EQ – The Tilt EQ is a simple way to achieve robust EQing. Turn the knob clockwise, and you will increase treble but reduce bass. Turn the knob counterclockwise, and you will increase bass but reduce treble. The great thing about a Tilt EQ is that it never loses clarity. When cascading the Boost and Overdrive, you can get creative with the separate bass and treble controls from the drive side and the Tilt EQ from the boost side. If you get your drive side EQ balanced the way you like it, you can then tailor the overall feel with the Tilt EQ.

Level – The Level control adjusts the output volume of the boost and can be used to push the front end of the pedal or your amp, depending on whether it is set to post or pre.

Overdrive Section

Volume – It may sound simple, but output is key to getting your drive set properly. Gain and feel are all associated with the gain structure—how much volume from the pedal hits the front of the amp, how much initial gain the pedal provides, and how well it pairs with the amp in terms of EQ. J. Rockett always advises setting your amp to where it starts to "feel better than it sounds" (adding a bit of hair), and then add a touch of Overdrive. From there, you can feather in more or less gain to taste.

Treble – The Treble control adjusts the top end of the overdrive but never loses clarity.

Bass – The Bass control allows you to increase or decrease the bottom end.

Gain – The Gain control increases or decreases the overall gain and interacts with the volume control.
